Banquet Hall Decorations

A banquet hall

No matter if the event is a birthday party, club meeting, or wedding, banquet halls are popular event facilities that remain in high demand throughout the year. Often, the client will be responsible for decorating for the event on their own, but they will have to adhere to the banquet facility's guidelines and restrictions on what decorations can be used. Although the rules for each banquet hall will vary, there are a few standard guidelines followed by most facilities.

Flower Petals

Banquet halls that have carpeted floors usually do not allow loose flower petals to be spread around as decorations. When the petals are stepped on, they will likely stain the carpet. This is a guaranteed way to not only lose your deposit, but it increases costs for the facility because they will have to replace and clean their carpets more often.

Instead of fresh flower petals, use realistic silk flower petals. You can even have them printed with information pertaining to the event, such as a congratulatory message, or the names and wedding date of a couple.

Confetti and Sequins

Confetti, sequins, and glitter are usually not allowed in carpeted banquet halls. Even some banquet facilities with tile, laminate, or hardwood floors do not allow these decorations because they can be difficult to clean up---inevitably, some of the glitter, confetti, or sequins will end up on the floor.

An alternative it to make a table overlay. Take a clear or colored sheet of paper and cut it so that it will fit on top of your banquet table. Covering small areas at a time with clear-drying craft glue, spread the confetti, sequins, or glitter that you want to use on the paper. Let it dry, and then have it laminated. This will ensure that the decorations won't fall off, and it will likely be considered acceptable by the banquet hall.

Balloons

Balloons and balloon archways are popular decorations used for all types of events, from weddings to company parties. When renting a banquet hall, using a balloon archway is typically acceptable, and many banquet halls also rent arches and all you have to do is supply the balloons.

However, if you want a have a balloon ceiling, you should be sure to ask whether the banquet facility you plan to rent will allow it. A balloon ceiling is when helium-filled balloons are blown up and then allowed to float to the ceiling, without being anchored by string. Some banquet halls view this as unacceptable because someone will have to recover all of the balloons, and this can be difficult, especially if the facility has high ceilings.

Even if you are allowed to have a balloon ceiling, you will need to consider how long it will take to not only fill up and release all of the balloons, but to collect, deflate, and dispose of them once the event is over. This can add to your event rental time, which will in turn cost you more.
