Drywall ceilings are the most popular ceilings for residential new construction because of their fire resistance, building-code compliance and cost. Suspended ceilings are very popular in commercial and utility buildings. For a grander look and feel, use architectural-grade king or queen trusses and leave them exposed. To get enough insulation above the ceiling, use structural insulated panels as the roof's outer skin. These panels come in various thicknesses of Styrofoam insulation sandwiched between two sheets of oriented strand board.
