Bathroom design planning and remodeling does not have to be hard or expensive. There are many things a homeowner can do when planning a bathroom design that can be simple and cost effective. Some options are projects you can do on your own eliminating the need to hire professionals.
Tubs Showers and Toilets
Replace your toilet with a modern, white, low flush toilet. Doing so improves the look of the bathroom and also saves you money. When you replace a tub or shower make sure you have enough room to remove the old tub or shower, because they may have been installed before the wall finishes were put in place.
Many master bathrooms are now becoming master retreats with the use of jacuzzi tubs and double sinks. These are great features to install if you have the room, but can be hard to fit into older, smaller bathrooms without giving up a closet or part of your bedroom.
Fixtures
One of the easiest ways to upgrade the look and feel of the bathroom is to change out the fixtures in the sinks and the shower or tub. You can upgrade the fixtures without hiring a plumber or change the configuration of the bathroom. All that it takes is shutting off the water at the water shut off valves underneath the sink or at the main water supply, removing the old fixtures and installing the new fixtures per the manufactures instructions. The tub and shower fixtures may require a little more work since they are located in the wall but the wall should not need to be opened up completely unless you have a leak or are trying to replace the pipes as well.
Finishes
The finishes of the bathroom are another easy item a homeowner can tackle on their own. Painting is an easy way to create a new look without spending a lot of money. One interesting trend that can update the look of a bathroom is to use one wall as an accent wall painted in a bold color. Monochrome white bathrooms are no longer the trend.
Changing your floors may require a little heavy lifting. Visit a home improvement store for a workshop on installing tile onto floors or walls. You can also Install heated floor underlayment before you lay new tile. It's a great comfort feature on cold winter days. It doesn't cost that much if you are able to do it yourself. Just make sure you have an electrician look at the electrical requirements because some older homes may not have the extra power for it.
