1. Choose pieces of crown molding that all have the same edge and angle. This step can be overlooked by a person in a hurry or if you buy the molding at separate times. The only way, without a lot of sawing, to join your moldings is to first make sure they are all the same on the ends.
2. Apply wood glue in the joints that connect the crown molding. This will help secure a tight seal between the pieces. Crown molding pieces will have male and female ends, which can be slid together. A dab of wood glue will solidify this connection during your process.
3. Caulk the top and bottoms of each piece of crown molding when you place it along the wall and ceiling of the room. A sturdy caulk will not only keep the pieces in place while you are working, but will also help keep the molding in place for many years.
4. Use a nail gun and small nails to put the finishing touches on the . By placing a nail at each end of the molding, the pieces will be joined and very difficult to bring apart. If a nail gun is not available, carefully using a hammer and nail will do.
5. Place the nails at least 6 inches apart in the joints. If you nail the crown molding closer than this, the molding may break.
