Design A Living Room With Teal Brown & Green

Teal is a bright, vibrant, fun color.

Teal is a medium blue-green color that gives a bright, breezy feel to a room and is perfectly suited for aquatic themes. Teaming teal with earthy browns and greens creates a fresh, nature-inspired color scheme that really brings the outdoors in. Whether you want to divide the use of these three colors equally, or you want to place the focus more on one color than the others, there are plenty of options when it comes to designing a beautiful teal, green and brown living room.

Instructions

1. Select a color from the teal, green and brown palette for each wall. If you choose a dominant color, use this color on the walls with the largest areas, and use the other two colors on smaller areas. For example, to create a mainly teal living room, paint the largest walls teal, any recessed areas green, and features such as a chimney breast (the part of a wall that projects forward above the fireplace) brown. All of these colors have a range of different shades, and the shades you select will alter the overall feel of the room, from dark and bold to light and airy.

2. Create a focal point in the room with wall art. Stencils are available from mail order companies in a huge range of designs, including art deco, Celtic, Far Eastern, Gothic and medieval, contemporary and mosaic. For a subtle appearance, paint the wall art in the same color as the wall, but in a different shade, such as a light green art deco design on a medium green wall. For a bolder look, paint the wall art in a different color than the wall itself. This is also a stylish way to introduce splashes of the least dominant color if you choose to paint all the walls the same color -- teal walls with a large green and small brown design, for example.

3. Use fabric in the form of cushions, rugs, throws and window dressings. Mix light, medium and dark teal shades with rich deep chocolates and warm, light shades of brown, along with light and summery greens, plus deep and bold greens. This prevents any one shade from becoming overpowering and helps to counteract the wall colors. Lighter shades of fabric will soften darker wall shades, while bold, bright fabrics will add interest to light, cool wall shades. Create extra texture and depth by using different materials such as satin and velvet, and mix and match solid, striped and floral-patterned cushions.

4. Continue the nature-themed aspect of the color palette with the addition of accessories. Arrange a display of flowers in teal and green glass vases, and tuck a wooden carved fairy between the vases to add a touch of fantasy. Hang nature-inspired artwork on the walls, and create a freshly-scented coffee table centerpiece by filling a green fruit bowl with fir cones, cinnamon sticks and star anise.
