Decorate Kitchen Ceiling Borders

The kitchen isn't just a utilitarian space, designed for cooking and washing dishes, but also an important social space in which families and friends gather. As you decorate this multi-purpose area in your home, add some extras to make it more visually appealing. By turning your attention to the ceiling, for example, and placing some borders rimming this section of the room, you can create a more aesthetically pleasing place for all to enjoy.

Instructions

1. Add a wallpaper border that fits with the kitchen's motif. If your kitchen theme includes apples, for example, seek a border that features apples overflowing out of baskets or apples atop a background of plaid. Affix this border an inch or so down from the ceiling, using a level to ensure that it remains straight as it moves around the room.

2. Apply decorative painting around the ceiling's border. Using a detailing brush and your artistic skill, create a green vine border -- or another border that fits with the space -- to run around this section of your wall.

3. Transform kitchen tools into decorations, mounting them around the rim of the room. Instead of tossing a tired rolling pin, whisk or wooden spoons, clean them up a bit and screw them into your wall, placing them around the border of your ceiling. With these additions, you can transform your kitchen into a whimsical space and create some conversation pieces.

4. Suspend small pictures or tiles around the border. While you don't want overwhelmingly large pictures up against the ceiling, you can space petite ones of 6 inches or less evenly around the area, making this normally vacant section of wall an appealing one.
