Cut Crown Molding In A Bathroom

Create a luxurious bathroom by learning to cut crown molding.

Cutting crown molding can appear challenging, especially in bathroom's customary small spaces. However, with a proper understanding of cut crown molding, you will be able to approach the saw with that expensive molding confident that you're making the right cut. Take your time measuring and marking the molding prior to making any cuts. The old saying "measure twice, cut once" has lated because it has value. This is especially true when you are working with expensive ornate wood trim such as crown molding.

Instructions

1. Measure each wall of the bathroom along the top edge where the wall meets the ceiling with a tape measure. Make an accurate measurement since the bottom or center measurements of a wall may vary from the top. The key to cutting crown molding installation is making accurate measurements.

2. Mark the measurements onto the lengths of crown molding. Make a small note on each end of the measurement on the back side to indicate the angle required. Ends that meet on outward projecting corners will require a 45 degree angle cut so that the front side of the molding has the long points. Ends that meet on inward corners will require a 45-degree angle cut so that the back side of the molding has the long points.

3. Adjust the miter saw blade to cut a 45 degree angle. Place each length of molding onto the saw to cut the molding to length. Orient the molding so that the bottom edge of the molding rests against the fence of the saw and the top edge of the molding rests flat against the table of the saw.

4. Cut each end to the required angle as you noted on the back side of each molding piece to be cut. Guide the saw through the wood in an even motion moving just fast enough to allow the blade to cut the wood.
