If your ceilings need a fresh coat of paint, the proper application strategy will produce attractive results. When amateur do-it-yourselfers paint a ceiling, they often end up with discoloration within the finish caused by uneven drying times. Combat this by maintaining consistent application that will promote even drying. Identify the potential pitfalls before they occur, or you may have to apply coat after coat of paint.
Instructions
1. Move items out of the room if you think they will inhibit your ability to work.
2. Dust the ceiling with a broom.
3. Place painter's tape on areas you do not want painted, including the tops of the walls immediately adjacent to the ceiling.
4. Place drop cloths on the floor. Cover any furniture or other items on the floor in the room that need protection.
5. Fill a plastic 5-gallon bucket with no more than two gallons of flat latex paint.
6. Coat the flat latex paint, using a roller affixed to an extension pole. Begin in the corner of the room and roll vertically, moving from your left to right. Use a nylon brush to apply paint to detailed areas that are inaccessible to the roller.
7. Wait a minimum of two hours for the ceiling to dry. Evaluate paint coverage. Add another coat of flat latex paint if necessary.
