Ceilings Ideas

Accentuate your room's ceilings with materials that complement the décor of your home. Beadboard is perfect for a shabby chic style, and copper tiles fit well in a Victorian home. If your style is more country, install a knotty pine ceiling. You can also consider decorated hardwood paneling or filmy fabric as a ceiling choice for your artistic home.

Beadboard Ceiling

A beadboard ceiling adds a charming touch to any room. Beadboard is also a simple design solution if you need to cover a damaged or outdated ceiling. You can easily install beadboard panels to your ceiling joists with paneling glue and paneling nails. You can find pre-primed beadboard panels made from MDF, HDF, wood veneer and hardwoods in sizes that range from 38 to 40 inches tall at your local home improvement store and online retailers.

Metal Tiles

Metal ceiling tiles are a beautiful decorative solution for your kitchen, bathroom, dining room or sun room ceiling. The metal tiles are available in a wide variety of design styles from simple to ornate, as well as in a variety of metal colors from copper to tin. You can also paint the tiles to coordinate with your room's décor, or leave them natural. Metal ceiling tiles are sold at your local home stores and at online retailers. You can install the metal tiles directly on top of your existing ceiling or to a plywood substrate.

Pine Ceiling

To add rustic charm to any room, consider a tongue-and-groove pine ceiling. Tongue-and-groove design interlocks the pine strips together, creating a ceiling that is reminiscent of days gone by. Knotty pine adds a distinctive air of country style and will bring appealing detail to your room's ceiling.

Wood Paneling

Decorate stained plywood panels with coordinating strips of wood trim to create a ceiling that is whimsical and eclectic. You can create the individual panels by attaching wood trim in a variety of widths and lengths to make geometric patterns or to create a random design. Strong adhesive such as clear Liquid Nail works well to attach the trim to the panels. You can then attach the decorated hardwood panels directly to the joists or as a cover to an existing ceiling.

Fabric Ceiling

If you have a sloping ceiling to deal with, cover it with fabric for an interesting complement to your room's décor. Fabric ceilings add warmth to any room and can be a focal point in your design. Aside from covering a ceiling that slopes, you can install gauzy and colorful fabric strips that fan out from the center of your room to create a tent effect.
