Asian Decorating Ideas For The Kitchen

Asian Decorating Ideas for the Kitchen

There are many different ways of decorating your kitchen to create an Asian-inspired flare. You should at least incorporate some of the basic aspects of your kitchen in an Asian decor scheme, including paint, cabinets, and kitchen accents. You can easily redecorate your kitchen to incorporate some Asian aspects.

Paint

Create a base color for your kitchen by painting the walls an Asian hue. Dark red is often used in Asian culture, but you can use other colors as well. Consider what kind of accents you will be adding to the kitchen and determine whether the paint color will allow them to flow smoothly in a harmonious manner. Different colors emit different thoughts and moods. Make sure you consider what type of Asian kitchen you would like to have. Do you want a calm, serene cooking environment, or do you want an electric, vibrant attitude in your cooking space? Paint is the most efficient way to create your optimal kitchen decor.

Cabinets

Paint your old cabinets or buy new ones in a dark earth-tone color. Dark colors are sleek and will allow bolder, brighter colors of your accents to stand out. If you do not want to paint or replace your cabinets all together, consider replacing the front section of your cabinet doors with rice paper. Carefully remove the middle wood from each door and set it aside. Measure the appropriate amount of rice paper and cut it out with a utility knife or box cutter, then place it inside the door. If you already have glass in the center of your cabinet doors, you can place the rice paper directly onto the glass. Rice paper will add to the Asian feel of your kitchen.

Accents

Home accents are touches that personalize a space. As you fill your kitchen with Asian touches, do not be afraid to use a little bit of everything. Try, though, to keep it simple and sleek. You do not have to be overly elaborate in your decorations to create your Asian theme. Bamboo blinds can be used on windows, or bamboo place mats can also be used. Bonsai trees are a great way to line windowsills. You can trim them to suit your preferred style. Asian screens can be used as room dividers if your kitchen is big enough. You can also use them to hide an unsightly storage shelf. Consider using decorative tiles. If you are feeling very handy and want to make a dramatic change, you can create a whole new backsplash area with Asian-themed tiles. To keep the handy work to a minimum, simply place the tiles on the kitchen counters, either flat or leaning up against a wall. You can find decorative tiles at most home improvement stores, but you can also decorate plain tiles yourself with paint and creativity. Use chopsticks artistically as table centerpieces or as wall ornaments. Paper lanterns come in many different colors, and you can use them to accentuate the color scheme you have chosen for your kitchen.
