Frugal Bathroom Decorating

Adding embellishments to your towel, such as tassel fringe, gives it a costly look.

The cost of decorating a bathroom can be quite expensive if you purchase matching towels, shower curtains and other bathroom accessories. This can take a big chunk out of your budget if you are redecorating a few rooms or even your whole house. You can find items to decorate your bathroom inexpensively if you use your imagination and a few tips. It is not difficult to think of frugal ways to decorate the small room so it looks attractive.

Instructions

1. Set a faux crystal relish tray onto the bathroom counter top. These are often available for $1 or less at dollar stores or garage sales. You can use the relish tray to place your rings in while you wash your hands or to empty change out of your pants pockets. They are also useful for bar soaps or to display guest soaps or other items in the room, such as travel-sized deodorants or toothpastes for guests.

2. Place a solid-colored coffee mug or short vase with a wide mouth to hold toothbrushes, combs and brushes or makeup brushes.

3. Buy an inexpensive clear or frosted shower curtain liner from a dollar store. Decorate the outside of the shower curtain with large colorful stickers or decals. Another idea is to hang a full-size bed sheet on the outside of the shower curtain liner by using clip-on curtain hooks. This gives a decorative look to the room and the liner protects the sheet from moisture since it is outside the bathtub area.

4. Find an inexpensive small rug to use in the bathroom. You do not have to buy expensive bathroom rugs for this area. Any rug will work as long as it coordinates with the room colors and other accessories. When many people remodel their homes, they usually sell their existing rugs at a garage sale or donate them to a thrift store. You can use a long, rectangle-shaped rug that extends color and softness in front of the bath, toilet and sink areas. This works particularly well if you have a rectangle-shaped bathroom like most homes.

5. Hang a plastic potpourri hanger on the back of your bathroom door or use it as wall art. Use a hot glue gun to attach lace to both sides of the hanger. Leave a small opening to pour in potpourri on the back side. Trim with lacy ribbon and hang on your wall or door. This makes an effective air freshener for your bathroom.

6. Cut out pictures from magazines and frame them with picture frames from garage sales or dollar stores. You can also frame your children's artwork or photographs of your pet to use as inexpensive artwork for the bathroom area.
