Compare Acoustic Wall Tiles

Acoustic tiles are secured to the wall similar to other types of tiles.

Acoustic wall tiles can be installed in many areas of your home, such as an office or a basement. An acoustic wall tile absorbs sound to reduce the amount of echo that is heard. Acoustic wall tiles all have the same characteristics, but there are variations that you can compare from tile to tile. This can be done by going to a tile store or looking at tiles that you can purchase online.

Instructions

1. Review the type of absorption material used for the tiles. Material can range from fiberglass and polyester to green or recycled materials. These can include recycled cotton and cellulose fibers.

2. Compare the acoustical performance of the tiles by looking at the NRC rating. The NRC, or Noise Reduction Coefficient, is a number rating from 0 to 1, with 1 being the most absorptive.

3. Look at the dimensions and weight of the tiles. Sizes can range from 1 inch by 2 inches to 2 inches by 4 inches. The weight of the tile is based on its size and can range from 3 pounds to 9 pounds.

4. Determine the prices that are being charged per tile from multiple vendors. You can also look to see what color options are available for each type of tile.

5. Find out how each type of tile is installed. Some tiles use adhesive, while others can use loop fasteners or require double sided tape.
