Use a combination of seashells in different colors, sizes and shapes to achieve a natural look in your bathroom decor.
Seashells work well as bathroom decor because moisture won't harm them. Shells can also multitask as decorative and practical accessories, such as a soap dish or container for potpourri. Incorporate your seashell theme into every aspect of your decor or use them sparingly to make a few really stand out. Novelty seashell items or images can be mixed in with real seashells to achieve the look and feel you want in your bathroom.
Instructions
1. Paint the bathroom in seashore colors, such as soft beige, coral or turquoise. Grind iridescent shells and apply them to the walls like plaster to add texture and interest to the walls. If you don't want to commit to painting, consider using a border, stenciling on seashell images or hanging pictures of the beach or seashells on the wall. Create your own border by gluing shells around the bathroom using various sizes, textures and colors.
2. String real seashells on clear fishing line to hang as a decorative shower curtain reminiscent of the beaded curtains from the 1960s. Use a clear vinyl liner between the shells and shower to enjoy the shells from either side, or a light solid liner if you want more privacy.
3. Hang towels that play off your walls and don't detract from other decorative items. Use simple white towels with small shells embroidered on one end or solid-colored towels in a natural beach or seashell color that complements the rest of
4. Place clear decorative containers in strategic places in the bathroom, and add real shells. A shallow bowl can hold sand and shells on the counter or shelves above the toilet. Clear jars can hold seashells or sand and shells. Put together a shadowbox that displays your favorite seashells along with sand and pictures or images of the beach or shells.
5. Use accessories to enhance your theme and fill in any blank spots. Seashell-shaped candles can decorate an empty counter or shelf. Use shell-shaped keepsake boxes or large shells to hold jewelry, small makeup items or hair ties. Bath sponges and hand soaps come in seashell shapes, as well.
6. Attach shells to the walls or a board to use as hooks for lightweight items. Or glue shells in a border around the mirror or picture frames.
