Make A False Ceiling For Wedding Decorations

Cover up an unattractve ceiling with a decorative false ceiling.

Hide an unattractive ceiling or exposed spaces in your wedding venue by creating a false ceiling. The easiest and most cost effect way to do this is to use an inexpensive fabric to decorate the ceiling, creating a false ceiling that makes the space feel more intimate. The colors, style and material you use should complement other details in your wedding decorations.

Instructions

1. Inspect the venue for sturdy architectural features of the building, such as pipes, beams, columns or eaves. You can use these parts of the building to hold up your materials, or install something on your own.

2. Install small hooks that you can easily remove without damaging the ceiling or the building if there are no built-in features. Run thick wire between the hooks on opposite sides of the room.

3. Drape the fabric through the hooks or over wire. Alternatively, tie the material in knots or wrap it around beams, eaves or other permanent fixtures on the building.

4. Fluff out the material or create streams of material that go from the center of the space to the outer edges. Use thin, lightweight material to avoid putting unnecessary stress on the hooks or building fixtures. For example, tulle, organza, chiffon and gossamer are lightweight and work well for weddings.

5. Twist strings of miniature LED lights with the material for a sparkling, twinkling effect. If strings of lights aren't your thing, you could hang lightweight paper lanterns from the ceiling with fishing wire so they look like they are floating.
