Ideas For Bathroom Designs

The bathroom is no longer just a functional room in the house. It represents your style and who you are. There are several bathroom design ideas to choose from and even more options within those designs. You'll want the design to match the rest of the house, but you still can create a new bathroom that will be functional, but stylish.

Vintage

Vintage bathroom designs can incorporate fixtures from salvage yards, garage sales and flea markets, but sometimes these older pieces don't comply with modern building-code requirements. Many of these designs, however, have been brought back by companies looking to cash in on the vintage bathroom craze. These designs include ornate faucets with ceramic handles, oriental rugs, furniture with ornate carvings and lighting that features chandeliers and ornamental wall sconces.

Romantic

Romantic bathroom designs are easy to achieve with just some simple painting techniques, white linens and clean designs. Avoid mirrors with heavy wood trim; rather, use simple mirrors with clean lines. Paint everything white, from walls to vanities, and use silver fixtures. Try hanging a gauzy white scarf or antique linen above the window to create a soft, romantic look.

Spa

Spa bathroom designs are all about comfort and feeling pampered. Consider installing a bathtub with jets or a high-end shower with massage jets, a rain showerhead or even a steam nozzle. Use a color scheme of warm, soothing colors like shades of tan, chocolate and mocha. Let as much natural light in as possible. If your budget allows, install a skylight or large windows with frosted glass. Incorporate as many natural materials as possible. Use wood vanities that are darker in color and stone countertops such as granite or marble. For lighting, use clean fixtures that have dimmer switches and nice smelling candles. Try a heated towel rack for added luxury. Keep the surfaces clear of bathroom products like toothpaste and hair gel.

Modern

Modern bathroom designs are minimalist and streamlined. Choose cutting-edge bath fixtures and basins made from stainless steel or exotic colors. Consider hanging the sink on the wall to create more floor space. You also could try a vessel sink with the basin sitting on top of the countertop instead of inside it. If your budget allows, install a whirlpool bathtub or a shower with a rain showerhead. Try a ceramic or stone floor, or if you're looking for true luxury, consider a heated floor. When it comes to lighting, use recessed or spot lighting. Go with a simple mirror, not one with a medicine cabinet or harsh framing, and think about getting a fog-free mirror.
