If your wall paneling has a hole or gouge, don't despair; a repair is not as difficult as you think. In most cases, a simple patch can make the paneling look new.
Instructions
1. Cut a piece of panel slightly larger than the hole or gouge. Center the piece over the hole, lining up grooves on the patch and paneling. Hold up the patch with a strip of masking tape.
2. Use a utility knife to score an outline of the patch on the paneling surface. Remove the patch. Cut the panel out, prying loose with a putty knife.
3. Make a framed support for the patch with 4 1-inch by 3-inch furring strips. Use panel adhesive to glue strips around the hole, half under paneling and half exposed. Let the adhesive dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Apply a bead of paneling adhesive around the back of the patch, close to the edges and the furring strips. Let glue get tacky before placing the patch in the hole.
5. Nail paneling nails around the edge of the patch, spaced 3 inches apart. Sink nails with a nail set and fill nail head holes with wood putty.
