Decorate The Ceiling For A Reception

Draping tulle from the ceiling is an inexpensive way to decorate a reception hall.

A wedding reception is an event typically following the wedding ceremony in which the guests are invited to celebrate alongside the bride and groom. The decor scheme used in the reception hall can influence the entire vibe of the evening. Regardless of what type of reception you want -- from simple and chic to classy and extravagant -- adding some decoration to the ceiling is a great way to enhance the reception hall. Draping yards of tulle intertwined with twinkle lights between the corners of the ceiling is a simple yet elegant way to decorate a reception hall ceiling.

Instructions

1. Measure the distance from one corner of the reception hall to the opposite corner using a measuring tape. This is the measurement you will use to determine how much tulle you need for draping. Add at least 12 inches to the measurement so you can drape the tulle loosely.

2. Install a large metal or plastic ceiling hook in all four corners of the room, about 3 inches in from each corner. Be sure to check with the owner of the building to receive permission to do this. If it is not possible for you to drill holes in the wall, ask the professionals at your local home improvement store about options regarding self-adhesive hooks that remove cleanly.

3. Cut two lengths of 54-inch-wide tulle using the measurement determined earlier. By cutting the lengths of tulle longer than you need, the tulle will hang lower from the ceiling. If you want the ends of the tulle drapes to hang down to the floor, measure the height of the walls and add the length to both ends when cutting the tulle.

4. Bunch the tulle at the ends and drape each end over the corresponding ceiling hook. Wrap a length of fishing line around the tulle, securing it to the hook.

5. Connect several strands of white or colored Christmas lights in order to make two strands long enough to stretch from one corner of the room to the other.

6. Lay the strands of Christmas lights inside the lengths of draped tulle and hang the ends of the strands over the ceiling hooks to secure them in place.

7. Tie decorative ribbons or bows around the ceiling hooks to disguise them and to further decorate the ceiling of the reception hall. For a simple look, use extra pieces of tulle to construct the bows. If you are going for something more elegant, use a silk ribbon or wide lengths of satin.

8. Plug in the Christmas lights. The folds of tulle with soften the light, creating a romantic glow perfect for the occasion.
