Cut The Inside Corner On Crown Moulding Without Miter Saw

Crown moulding is decorative wood installed in the corners between the wall and the ceiling that adds visual interest and elegance to any room. White crown moulding on a wall painted a different color stands out and makes a statement. It is a feature that will add value to your home when it is installed properly. One way to cut the crown moulding so it fits nicely in the corners is to use a miter saw. A much simpler way is to use a miter box with a hand saw.

Instructions

1. Measure the angle of the inside corner with the protractor. Divide that number by 2 to determine the angle you need to cut on the wood. Most corners will have an angle of 90 degrees, making 45 degrees the angle that needs to be cut.

2. Place the crown moulding in the miter box. The side of the miter box that is opposite from you represents the wall and the bottom of the miter box represents the ceiling. Place the edge of the crown moulding that will be attached to the wall along the side of the miter box opposite you, and the edge that will attach to the ceiling on the bottom of the box. Measuring on the wall side of the crown moulding for the proper length, line that length up with the 45-degree angle cut line on the miter box. Cut the crown moulding.

3. Repeat step two for the piece of crown moulding that will match the one you just cut. Place them both on the wall to verify the cut. Make adjustments if necessary. A little bit of sanding may be all that is necessary.

4. Attach the crown moulding to the wall with finishing nails. Use a nail tap to set the nail slightly below the edge of the crown moulding and fill with wood filler to even it out and cover it up.
