Hang Ceilingmounted Faux Wood Blinds

Ceiling-mounted blinds work well on windows that have narrow or shallow window frames.

Faux wood blinds are made of PVC, vinyl or a mixture of PVC, vinyl and wood particles. These blinds work well on windows that receive a lot of sun or in rooms where moisture can become a problem for real wood blinds. When mounting blinds on window frames too narrow for both the blind and the end mounting brackets, the blind can be ceiling-mounted. Mounting faux wood blinds using a ceiling mount, meaning the blind is mounted to the top of the window sill, requires only the hardware included with the blind.

Instructions

1. Hold the blind up to the window, allowing the blind's head rail to touch the top of the window sill. Mark a straight line on the top of the sill on each end of the blind, using a pencil. The line will mark the exact location of the blind once installed. Measure the distance from each drawn line to the side of the window on both sides, to ensure the blind will hang in the middle of the window.

2. Place one of the ceiling-mount brackets against the inside of the marked line, with the top of the bracket pressing against the top of the sill. Draw another line on the sill with the pencil, using the back, flat area of the bracket as a marker. Repeat this process on the other side of the window and in the middle for the center support bracket, using the previously marked line as a guide. Many brands of faux wood blinds include both ceiling-mount and side mount brackets, while other brands have brackets that can be used for both mounts.

3. Hold the level up to the sill and ensure that the marks made are level to one another. If the marks made with the pencil do not appear level, adjust the marks to ensure the blind hangs level on the window.

4. Pre-drill your screw holes, using the cordless drill for both the mounting brackets and the center support bracket. Pre-drilling lessens the chance of damaging wood trim when attempting to secure the screws without any pre-drilled holes.

5. Hold one bracket into place and use the cordless screwdriver to secure the bracket to the sill. Repeat the process by attaching the other mounting bracket to the opposite side of the window and the center support bracket in the center of the window sill. Use every screw included in the bracket kit to attach the brackets to the sill, as faux woods blinds are heavy and need the extra support.

6. Clip the head rail of the blind into the brackets and ensure that the sides of the blind are spaced evenly from each side of the window.

7. Attach the faux wood blind valance to the head rail. Some valances have clips built into the valance. Other types of valances will require fastening the clips before attaching the valance to the blind.
