Decorate A Ceiling Fan

There are several ways to decorate a ceiling fan.

The style of a fan in a room can change the way the entire space looks. If a fan looks dated, the entire room will also look dated. If you want to change the look of the room, you do not have to replace the fan. One alternative is to decorate the fan to transition an older fan into modern style decorations. Decorating a fan is a simple and inexpensive process that can be completed in just one day.

Instructions

1. Turn off the electricity in the room where you will be working. Turn off any switches, and also turn off the electricity at the fuse box.

2. Locate the screws holding the fan in place against the ceiling. Carefully hold the fan in one hand and unscrew the screws with the other. You can also have a friend hold the fan while you unscrew it. Take the fan down from the ceiling.

3. Paint the blades of the fan with enamel paint. Make sure to paint the top, bottom and sides of the fan blades. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours. If the paint is not even, or the original paint still is visible under the paint, use another coat of paint.

4. Spray the bottom of the fan blades with spray adhesive. Carefully place pictures or decals over the bottom of the fan blades. Work any bubbles out starting from the center of the decal and working the bubble to the edge. Pop tiny bubbles with the head of a pin and press to remove any remaining air. Allow the adhesive to dry for 1 hour.

5. Spread decoupage sealer over the bottom of the fan blades with a paintbrush. Pay special attention to the edges of the decals or pictures to hold them firmly in place. Allow the sealer to dry for 24 hours. Replace the fan.
