Attach T Molding To Tile And Laminate Wood Flooring

Finish the look of your laminate flooring with T moldings.

Laminate flooring often requires the use of doorway transition pieces or moldings. One type of transition molding is a T molding. T moldings look like a T piece and cover the small gap between two floors. Installing a T molding over the gap between tile and laminate flooring will give your floors a finished professional look. Learning cut and install the molding is an important part of any laminate flooring installation.

Instructions

1. Check the space between the laminate wood flooring and the tile. Once installed, there should be approximately ¼-inch expansion space on both sides of the T molding. If there is not enough space for the T molding expansion gaps, you may have to trim the laminate flooring or choose a different T molding size.

2. Measure the doorway where the tile and laminate wood flooring meet. Use a measuring tape for the most accurate measurements. Write the measurements down on a piece of paper with a pencil.

3. Measure the T molding with a measuring tape. Transfer the measurements from the door to the T molding with a pencil.

4. Cut the T molding to the right size. Place the T molding on the table of the miter saw. Cut the molding to size with the saw.

5. Apply polyethylene glue to the bottom of the T molding. Place the molding over the gap between the laminate flooring and the tile. If the subfloor is wood, screw the T molding into place. Do not screw the molding down if the subfloor is concrete. Allow the glue to dry before normal use.
