Make A Bath Look Like A Spa

Create a relaxing atmosphere for your bath.

Your bathroom is a functional, necessary room, but you can make it into a haven from the worries of the world. By decorating your bath to look more like a spa you will feel your stress and anxiety begin to melt away the moment you walk through the door. Create a spa-like bathroom on any budget by incorporating and building upon basic elements.

Instructions

1. Uncluttered counters enhance the bath.

Clear away excessive "stuff." Clutter is distracting and even stress-inducing. Remove objects from counters, shelves and bath surrounds. Stash items you use daily, such as cotton balls, tissues and toothbrushes in containers that are attractive, yet unimposing. A clean, streamlined bath provides a soothing effect.

2. White feels clean.

Paint the walls in a hue that produces the appropriate emotional response. Rich, warm earth tones provide a safe, comforting feeling; whites emit a cleansing sensation and soft, light colors are soothing. Stay with one or two primary colors throughout the room. Too many different colors distract and even cause tension.

3. Lighting can set the mood.

Employ lighting for ambiance and usefulness. Bright, ample task lighting around vanities and mirrors helps you apply makeup or shave. Other lighting in a spa bath should be softer and less jarring. Recessed lights in the ceiling connected to a dimmer switch will establish the environment. Place candles in a variety of lengths and widths around the bathroom for more mood lighting options.

4. Accessorize with spa products.

Accessorize with spa products. A stack of soft, fluffy bath towels, jars filled with salts, oils and bubble solution and poufs or loofahs will beckon you to wash away your workday cares in a warm, soothing bath. A thick, white bathrobe, snug slippers and a sleep mask near your vanity offer instant escape from the rest of the world.

5. Add soothing scents to the room.

Engage your sense of smell. A basket of dried flowers and herbs on a counter or shelf is attractive and can help you unwind. Choose plants known for their relaxing qualities, such as lavender, chamomile and rose. Use scented candles for lighting and fragrant bath products when you accessorize. Choose fragrances that are light and similar to avoid overpowering your olfactory senses.
