Decoration Ideas For Ceiling Tiles

Paint is a quick and inexpensive option for dressing up your ceiling.

Acoustic ceiling tiles are often associated with elementary schools and office buildings-a potential problem when the space in question is actually a part of your home. Many homeowners wishing to update their living spaces are looking up and adding spice to the room by renovating the old industrial ceiling tiles. There are a handful of options when it comes to tackling this project, and the good news is that they can all be done at little cost.

Paint

The quickest and easiest way to change the entire look of a tiled ceiling is to apply a coat of fresh paint. This can either be done by having the ceiling professionally sprayed, or it can be accomplished by hand. If you opt to do the work yourself, each tile should be carefully removed and laid on a flat surface away from sunlight. Apply an interior grade latex paint in the color of your choice one coat at a time, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying a new one. Once the tiles are dry, they are ready to be popped back into place in the ceiling.

Molding

Inexpensive molding strips are available at most home improvement stores, and can easily be cut to fit the tiles using a miter saw set at a 45-degree angle. The molding can then be attached to the tiles using glue or staples. You can even add molding strips before painting the tiles to give the impression of an expensive coffered ceiling at very little expense.

Fabric

Old scarves, shawls, and fabric strips can be cut slightly larger than the tiles’ dimensions to create a mosaic, or new fabric can be purchased in the color and pattern of your choice. Fabric is an excellent choice for acoustic ceiling tiles, because it will not alter the ceiling’s soundproofing capacity the way paint might. Additionally, fabric can be stapled to the tiles from the back, making it quick and easy to replace if your d cor changes down the road.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper can be applied to the tiles the same way you would to a wall, or it can be stapled or pinned in place. Fancy furniture tacks can make the job simple and will allow you to tack the paper right to the exposed side of the tile. Be careful when using wallpaper not to oversaturate the tiles with water, as this can lead to warping and discoloration.
