Ceiling tiles are installed into a grid that hangs lower than the original ceiling. The advantage of a drop ceiling is that it can cover up electrical wires and plumbing. Over time, the ceiling tiles may become stained from plumbing leaks or become worn from age. The standard is made of fiberboard and will attract dirt over time. Ceiling tiles are rejuvenated by following a straightforward procedure.
Instructions
1. Set two saw horses parallel to each other and 4 to 5 feet apart in a well-ventilated area. Place a piece of plywood on top of the saw horses. This will provide you with a convenient work area to touch up the ceiling tile.
2. Remove the ceiling tile from the grid. Push the tile up off of the grid and turn it. Pull the tile through the space in the grid vertically. The reason for removing the ceiling tile to touch it up is that if you paint it in place it will stick to the grid when it dries.
3. Place the ceiling tile on the piece of plywood with the colored side up.
4. Spray the tile with a spray paint that is the same color as the tile. Normally the tiles are white. Shake the spray can for 30 seconds and hold it about 6 inches above the surface of the tile. Hold down the nozzle button on the can as you move it across the tile one swipe at a time. Make smooth, even passes over the tile and release the button when you reach the end of each swipe. Let the paint dry thoroughly according to the directions on the can.
5. Replace the ceiling tile into the grid by pushing it through the and then flattening it out. Position it in the grid evenly once it is above the grid.
