Design An Outdoor Living Room

Create an outdoor living room

The warm, airy months of summer make many people want to spend more time outdoors. It's not just great weather driving us into the great outdoors. Having a versatile outdoor living room is a great space solution when entertaining during the warmer months. Also, your new outdoor living room could add value to your home. Take a walk through your yard with a paper and pencil to get started on your design.

Instructions

1. Place blank paper on your clipboard and begin to map out your exterior walls. Think about using natural boundary lines like shrubbery and small trees. Other exterior wall materials are fences and the walls of existing buildings.

2. Choose what materials you will use as flooring. Some possibilities are soft, thick grass, smooth pebbles or a concrete pad. Draw lines or tiny circles on your design sheet with a green pencil.

3. Use the blue pencil to create a partial or full ceiling on your design. Natural ceilings would be overhead tree limbs and tall bushes. Other ceiling choices could be awnings that are retractable or a pergola style roof.

4. Add furniture to your design sheet with a red pencil. Position them in locations that have some shade from the sun and the elements. Keep in mind cushions and fabric should be mildew resistant and be weather proof. Don't forget to add an end table or two.

5. Brighten up your outdoor living room design by adding lighting choices with yellow pencil. Solar edging lights or a lighted ceiling fan are smart savvy choices for an outdoor living room.
