Light fixture
There are different kinds of light fixtures, the most common would be a light in your kitchen which is mounted on the ceiling, this is called just what it sounds lke, a ceiling mounted fixture, there are also wall mount fixtures but they are all the same basic wiring.
Instructions
1. The first step is to take down the old light fixture if there is one to take down. Once this is down there is a box mounted up above the ceiling, this is called a Junction Box or J Box. The J Box basically has the wire coming into it. If the wire is feeding other lights also you will have 2 sets of wires meaning two hots two nuetrals and two grounds. If you only have one set of wire then this is an easier project. Ill explain if there are two sets of wires coming in and install a new fixture.
2. First take the two wires and twist them together, the two hots together, two nuetrals together(these are the white or gray wires) the hots are either Black red or blue and the ground wire will be green. Once these wires are together take your new fixture and get it ready to install, have the 3 wires from the fixture ready to tie to the wires in the J Box.
3. Make sure power to the wires at your Junction Box is off, make sure of this before you begin any installation, you can buy a tester at your local Home Depot, they cost about 10 bucks. Take the wires from the fixture and with wire nuts fit all three wires together (2 from the box and 1 from the light for each color. Wire these all together. You should have three wires in each wire nut. Fit the wires back into the Junction box. The screws that come with the light will fit into the Junction box. These boxes come with 4 tabs on either side to screw in screws for lights. Once you screw the fixture down add the lightbulbs whether it be flourescent or a standard lightbulb, turn the breaker back on flip the light switch and it should work.
