Use Draperies For A Wedding

Wedding drapery can be used for the ceremony or reception.

Decorations are one of the most important elements of a wedding. They help establish the theme for the wedding--casual or sophisticated, seasonal or holiday-related. Draperies are often part of the scheme. They are versatile, aesthetically pleasing and also practical, as they can be used not only to underscore the theme of the wedding, but also to hide unattractive parts of the venue, such as cement-block walls. With a little planning, using drapes in your wedding decor isn't hard at all.

Instructions

1. Select the right fabric and color for your wedding drapes. The fabric and color should complement the decor, as well as the apparel of the wedding party. For example, if the reception is in a tent, the fabric of the ceiling drapery can be similar to the fabric of the bride's gown or the color of the attendant's dresses. Elegant fabrics include silk and chiffon, but inexpensive tulle can be just as lovely. Ask the bridal store you're working with to give you fabric swatches so that you can more easily match the drapes.

2. Choose the placement. Drapes can be woven into the wedding arch under which the bride and groom stand during the ceremony or can line the rows of pews where wedding guests sit. Drapes can be used to hide and soften walls in the banquet hall and be draped from the ceiling of a tent.

3. Consider the overall effect. For example, drapery in a deep jewel tone covering all of the walls and the ceiling can give a reception area an exotic and intimate feeling. Used the same way, white drapes can give the reception an airy feeling. Some brides, however, prefer a simpler look. In that case, using the drapes judiciously, perhaps just along he walls, is best.

4. Think of ways you can accent the drapes. White minilights arranged in tulle, for example, can give wedding decor a magical touch.
