A siding brake is handy when installing vinyl siding.
A siding brake is used to bend aluminum or vinyl trim coil to make pieces for exterior house trim. These are often used in conjunction with aluminum or vinyl siding but may be used with wood or fiber cement siding. Trim coil is somewhat floppy; it's useful to have a helper when working with long sections.
Instructions
1. Cut a section of trim coil to length. Measure your desired length and cut the trim coil using tin snips. The maximum length should be 2 to 4 inches shorter than the siding brake.
2. Cut the coil to the proper width using the brake's slitter.
3. Mark your bend by making tick marks at each end of the aluminum or vinyl stock.
4. Slide the stock into the throat of the brake and line up the tick marks with the front of the throat. Pull the clamping lever down to hold the in place.
5. Lift the bending lever to make the bend. After you've bent the trim material to the proper angle, release the bending lever and lift the clamping lever to remove the bent material from the brake.
