Clean Beams With A Vacuum

Use a ladder and a vacuum to remove dust and debris from ceiling beams.

Cleaning wooden ceiling beams with a vacuum cleaner is a quick and effective way to remove dust and cobwebs that can build up in a hard-to-reach but very visible part of your home. The trick is make sure you and your vacuum can safely reach these often-high places.

Instructions

1. Position a portable folding table under the beams. Place a ladder or step stool next to the folding table.

2. Lift and place the vacuum cleaner on the folding table. Attach hose extensions to the vacuum to make it as long as possible. Attach the soft brush attachment to the end of the hose in order to help remove stubborn cobwebs. Plug the vacuum into a nearby electrical outlet.

3. Turn on the vacuum. Grasp the hose attachment and climb the ladder under the beams you have chosen to clean.

4. Starting at the highest point of the beam and ceiling, run the brush attachment over the surface you want to clean, allowing the vacuum to suck up and remove the dust and build-up. Move the brush in a downward fashion. Clean all of the beams within your reach.

5. Climb down from the ladder and turn off the vacuum. If there are more beams to clean, carefully move your table and ladder to the next position and repeat the process until all of the beams are cleaned.
