Cool Pool Ideas

Big or small, a refreshing pool is an attractive addition for any home.

Indoors or outdoors, big or small, a refreshing home pool can serve as an artistic statement and a place to relax and gather. From fancy infinity pools that look like they stretch into the horizon to simple lap pools that fit inside a bathroom, there are cool pool designs to suit any need.

Indoor Lap Pool

An indoor lap pool is a small, rectangular pool with a water treadmill machine mounted along one short side. The treadmill shoots streams of air into the water to create resistance so that you can swim laps without moving forward. A large bathroom with a white tile-covered lap pool along the wall has a crisp look and provides a place to swim laps year-round. A silvery water treadmill, silvery pool ladder and silvery ceiling lights provide all the necessary accessories and help enhance the clean design.

Outdoor Fountain Pool

Disguise your swimming pool so that it looks like a fancy fountain to give your yard a traditional look. A long, narrow, rectangular, dark granite pool backed by a dark granite wall forms a stately silhouette along the back of a yard. Carved stone spouts spaced evenly along the upper wall, such as lion heads that spew water from their mouths and into the pool, provide an elegant fountain design. Granite steps lead into the water at each short side of the pool for easy access.

Modern Infinity Pool

An infinity pool is an overflowing pool with a lower ledge to catch, drain and recycle the falling water. The pools can have anywhere from one to four overflowing sides and are popular for the unbroken visual line they create. A large, square, black tile, in-ground pool with a rim that sits 1 foot above ground level provides the central piece for this modern design. A 1-foot wide, 3-inch deep, black tile rim surrounds the pool at ground level to drain the splashing water and enhance the pool's silhouette.

Earthy Garden Pool

Create your own private paradise in a corner of your backyard by installing a kidney-shaped pool with waterfall and plant decorations. Faux pebble tiles on the floors, walls and rim of the rounded pool give the area a natural pond appeal. Matching tile around the pool deck preserves the earthy style, especially if you plant decorative shrubs around the edges of the deck to create an overgrown look.

A small, stacked rock pillar sticking up from the middle of the pool adds a fancy, yet natural, touch that can become a trickling waterfall or a base for a stone statue. Flower-filled containers scattered randomly around the inner and outer edges of the deck provide bursts of cheerful color to the area.
