Porch Ceiling Ideas

Your porch ceiling can be an extension of the design elements of your porch with beautiful tin tiles or tongue and groove pine. You can also create a custom porch ceiling with wood paneling and strips of wood trim for an artistic home design statement.

Beadboard

Consider covering your porch ceiling with beadboard panels for a stylish and simple design solution. Beadboard panels are made from wood veneer, hardwoods and both high and medium density fiberboard. Beadboard design is distinctive with narrow vertical strips that form the paneling. Beadboard panels are available in sizes ranging from 38 to 44 inches tall at your local home improvement store. You can install the panels on your porch ceiling with paneling glue and paneling nails.

Tin Ceiling Tiles

Tin ceiling tiles are a decorative, yet simple, solution for your porch ceiling. You can paint the tiles to blend in with your home's decor, or leave them natural with only a protective coat of exterior polyurethane to guard against the elements. Tin tiles are available at home stores and from online retailers. You can install the tin tiles directly on to your porch ceiling joists, or you can add a sheet of plywood as a substrate.

Tongue and Groove Pine

Consider a tongue and groove pine ceiling to add rustic charm to your porch. The interlocking style of tongue and groove is reminiscent of days when craftsmen made every piece of furniture by hand. Knotty pine is a particularly decorative type of wood and will bring an appealing detail to your porch ceiling. You can install tongue and groove pine with decking screws and a screw driver.

Vinyl

Vinyl is a maintenance free choice for your porch ceiling. Vinyl will not decay and is not attractive to insects, so the only maintenance you'll need to worry about is an occasional cleaning. You can install vinyl panels onto the ceiling joists or onto a plywood backboard with paneling nails.

Wood Paneling

Stained marine plywood panels decorated with strips of wood trim are another simple choice for your porch ceiling. You can attach the panels directly to the joists and then attach strips of trim in geometric shapes, stripes, or in a random pattern to add design interest to the porch. Stain the trim in a contrasting color to create an eclectic style for your ceiling.
