Remove Suspended Cabinets

Old cabinets can be quickly removed to make way for new ones.

Cabinets are an integral part of all kitchens, as well as some laundry rooms and bathrooms. Cabinets are either installed on the floor or suspended from the wall. Suspended cabinets are secured to the walls using at least four screws, which are screwed through the inside of the cabinet into the wall studs. The cabinets are also secured together using screws from the inside of the cabinets. If you are remodeling your kitchen, laundry room or bathroom and installing new cabinets, you will first need to remove the old ones. It's safest if you have someone to help you.

Instructions

1. Remove all of the contents from the cabinet, including the shelves. To remove the shelves, simply lift them out of the cabinet.

2. Remove the lateral screws on the interior side walls of the cabinet, disconnecting the cabinet from the cabinet beside it. The screws may be located inside of the cabinet that you are removing, or inside the next cabinet. If you can not find the screws, remove the door hinges by simply unscrewing them, as the lateral screws may be hidden.

3. Remove the two bottom screws on the rear inside wall of the cabinet.

4. Secure the bottom of the cabinet so that the cabinet does not drop. It is recommended that an able-bodied partner assist you by holding the cabinet.

5. Remove the two screws on the top of the inside wall of the cabinet, then lower the cabinet to the ground or countertop.
