Fans & Lighting Ideas

Liven up your ceiling fan with two motorized rotating blowers and light.

One way to address air flow and lighting needs is to go with a fan/light combination option in your home. Even if you choose to do one or the other, lighting and fan options in the home have increased exponentially from dome ceiling lights or the simple ceiling fan. Take advantage of this extensive increase in lighting and fan options and go modern, retro or somewhere in between.

Lamps

Start with a unique shaped lamp for your home if the overall lighting and fan items in your home don't need a lift, yet you still want a statement piece. According to HGTV, you should place the lamp next to the most interesting or eye-catching item in the room, to complement one another. A unique lamp can inspire conversations and draw comments.

Ceiling Lighting

You no longer have to settle for the simple, plain overhead dome ceiling light unless you want to. Ceiling lights can be in more unique shapes, and they can sit close to the ceiling surface or far from it. They are available in many shapes and colors, can hang on a cord or strings and be made of unusual materials, like the Avir 45 ceiling light, which is made of Murano glass and metal. Ceiling lighting can also be in the form of an elaborate chandelier display.

Ceiling Fan/Lighting Combinations

Some ceiling light/fan combinations have the light atop the fan; others have it surround the fan's base or sit directly below it. Your ceiling light options include fans with lights that are dome-shaped, round or look like a barrel. The fan can hang from a thread-like cord to a wide metal stem. The blades can be thin, wide or in between and short or long in length.

Some ceiling fans, such as the Gyro, comprise two complete round fans (See Resources). The two encapsulated fans can move up and down, providing more focused circulating air throughout your rooms.

Other Lighting

If you need 4- to 8-foot lighting lengths in an area of your home, select monorail lighting. If you need to light up a specific corner of your home or highlight an art piece, use track lighting, wall sconces or recessed lighting. You can use colored lights in these lighting fixtures to draw attention to a particular object as well, or to highlight a darkened nook or cranny in the home.
