Centerpiece Ideas For A Family Reunion

Create a rustic, autumnal centerpiece for a family reunion at a ski lodge or chalet.

Style formal or informal reunions with similarly coordinated centerpieces including mirrored tiles, pillar candles and table scatters. Use colors that reflect your family crest or tartan, or echo the colors of your surroundings. Shells, coral and tropical flowers coupled with sand-filled candleholders and turquoise votives create a centerpiece that evokes memories of summer vacations at the beach, while centerpieces that feature elements of your family history or the family surname unite any theme or decor.

Heirlooms and Memorabilia

Cherished pieces of your family history and genealogy, or items that reflect your family heritage, serve as focal points in floral and non-floral centerpieces. Use terra cotta planters or painted tin cans for an informal base and accent with family pictures, daisies and tulips. For nonfloral centerpieces, fill hurricane vases with fruit, shells or pine cones and affix memorabilia from family vacations or other childhood experiences. Use postcards from vacation destinations or a small model of the family car.

Themes and Motifs

A themed family reunion lends itself to easier centerpiece ideas. Holiday or seasonal designs can again tie in family memorabilia. Ornaments from the family Christmas tree, dreidels from Hannukahs past and decorations from other holidays get new life as accent pieces in a bowl of flowers, pine cones or artificial fruit. Seasonal decor like bold sunflowers with pinwheels, soft lilacs with pastel eggs, ornamental berries with artificial autumn leaves and painted twigs with metallic snowflakes create clean and striking pieces.

Edible Centerpieces

Beloved family recipes create a centerpiece that will quickly disappear, like trays of cookies, pastries and other favorite sweets. Recipe cards or family trivia pieces, or games like Remember When, add more history to the centerpieces, as do pitchers of lemonade, iced tea or other favorite drinks accented with monogram charms. Create centerpieces featuring local fruits and vegetables, candied fruits or pieces of candy and other favorite snacks.
