Is Gunstock a can't go wrong Hardwood Color?
I have found the most difficult process in flooring is choosing the color. First off, the samples in the store never look the same in your house, then the samples in your house never look the same as the actual floor. What is a person to do? Gunstock seems to be a popular color for many manufacturers, and the color seems to stay relatively consistent across brands and manufacturers. Is Gunstock a can't go wrong Hardwood color choice? Does it kind of blend in with whatever someone has in their house? Selecting hardwood flooring color is a personal choice. Take samples home and look at them at different times of the day and under natural and artificial light. What wood stains are used for trim and furniture? Will color compliment your decor? Gunstock is a very popular floor color, and many manufacturers have a 'gunstock' in their color selections. Darker floor color tends to be considered more traditional by decorators. Flooring color should not match furniture exactly, but should be darker or lighter in the same family of color in order to compliment each other. Darker floor colors tend to make spaces seem smaller. Darker colors also tend to increase maintenance as they tend to show dust more. Scratches will also tend to be more noticeable if they cut through to natural wood beneath. Samples will tend to vary. No two pieces of wood take stain exactly alike. You get a better mix of color and grain in floor when you pull boards from three or four boxes when laying the floor. Well, I took your advice. I had sample city going on at my house. It is tough to determine how something is going to look from all over a house from such a small sample board. But, I chose what looked to be the best match for my walls, furniture, tastes. What else can you do. So, in the end I chose a color called butterscotch. It was right smack in the middle color tone wise between the Oak Natural and the Oak Gunstock. It is a good quality hardwood, so I hope it looks great when it is laid down. I am sure that butterscotch will be lovely. what brand are you thinking about getting? when we installed the flooring in our new house, we did the same thing with the samples. we were lucky, my girlfriend's brothers worked at the factory so we got a huge assortment and picked what we wanted. what we picked out before taking them tothe house was far from what we picked once we looked at them in the house. just a word about scratches and dents. they WILL happen. the first few you feel sick and want to rip them up and replace them. but after a year or so, you won't notice them as much. we have our share even though we are very careful with not dropping anything. if you don't do it already, don't wear shoes in the house. if you drag in little rocks or anything else, you'll scratch it. no one wears shoes in our house.
