Make Check Stubs

Make Check Stubs

Properly creating check stubs will allow you to make a legal document for accounting and accurate record-keeping. Check stubs are also beneficial for proof of employment if you want to be approved for a home, car or any other form of financing. With the proper software and equipment you can create professional check stubs.

Instructions

Creating Check Stubs

1. Purchase bookkeeping software like QuickBooks or Quicken, which allow you to input the financial information, taxes, and other parameters so your check stubs will have the correct information. You can purchase bookkeeping software at your local office supply store or online sites like Amazon.com.

2. Select a company that does payroll. There are companies that will process your payroll. Select a payroll processor that has systems that will automatically take out the necessary percentage for unemployment insurance, Social Security, FICA, and other taxes. Companies like Intuit provide these services and you can pay anywhere from as little as $25 a month to over $200 a year. There is also free payroll software you can use for starters (see Resource).

3. Purchase business check paper. Business check paper is special paper that has security watermarks or codes embedded in the paper, which protects counterfeiters from creating duplicate checks. Be sure to purchase business check paper that includes the check stub and the physical check. You can locate this paper at office supply stores. The cost for business check paper can vary anywhere from $22 and up. You can also locate business check paper online.

4. Print your check stubs. Your payroll processor or payroll software will give you the financial data, which you will transfer to your bookkeeping program that can next be printed on your business check paper. Make sure the settings for printing business checks using your bookkeeping software matches the requirements of your business check paper.

Tips Warnings

Use an inkjet or laser printer to print out your business check stubs. Most business check paper requires either of the two printers.

Bookkeeping software can be challenging if you have never used it before. Quicken and QuickBooks, for example, offer many online tutorials on their websites and within the software to assist you. They also have a wizard that walks you through the setup process.
