We've all been there: you or your child needs a last-minute costume, and of course, nothing you already own will do. Do not fear, because a homemade princess costume is easier than you may think to whip up in a bind. To make a princess costume at home you will need a few supplies found in your closet as well as a craft store.
Princess Dress
To make a princess dress, begin with the fanciest dress you own (one that you don't mind giving up). If your dress is lacking princess gleam, add lace around the sleeves or sprinkle glitter all over it. You could also glue silk flowers around the hem to be a flower princess.
Princess Crown
There are many ways to make a princess crown. If you have silk flowers, floral tape and wire, you can easily fashion a floral wreath for the hair. To begin, cut the silk flowers off of their stems. Wrap floral wire around the end of the flowers, connecting them together. If the wire shows through, wrap green floral tape around the wire for a more realistic look.
Craft stores sell foam crowns for about a dollar which will look great for a princess costume and be a fun activity for little princesses to decorate. While at the craft store, look for stick-on gems that will make the foam crown shine.
Princess Extras
More is more when creating a princess costume. Princesses will enjoy a wand to complement their costume. To begin this craft, buy a wooden star or heart cut-out at the craft store. Also buy a thin wooden dowel and acrylic paint. The wands can be painted and sprinkled with glitter before they dry. The wooden cut-out can be hot glued to the dowel. To add some more fun to the wand, tie pieces of curling ribbon to the dowel.
Jewelry is very important for all princesses. Most craft stores will sell inexpensive gaudy plastic jewelry that is perfect for a princess costume. Necklaces, rings and bracelets will go a long way in making any girl feel like a pretty princess.
