An auto lifts is a platform supported by hydraulically driven metal posts that raise a vehicle in order to allow easy access to its tires and undercarriage. Like any type of motorized equipment, auto lifts can often experience problems that have to be detected and resolved using basic troubleshooting techniques.
Stuck Lift
Problems with the motor, such as winding failure, can cause a failure of the lift to raise the vehicle. The winding or coil of the motor receives an electric charge and generates a magnetic field, which in turn opens the necessary contacts to enable the passage of current. If the coil appears burnt out, replacing the motor typically restores proper lift function.
Weak Lift
If the lift raises when unloaded but fails to lift a vehicle, a low voltage to the motor may be to blame. The operator should check the lift specifications to ensure proper motor voltage and make any necessary adjustments.
Slow Lift
If the auto lifts slowly, air may be mixing with oil in the suction tube that draws oil via pressure into the posts. The operator should check the suction line fittings for any leaks and tighten them as needed.
