Bath Remodel Ideas

Spoil yourself with a luxury showerhead.

For some, remodeling a bathroom means completely gutting it and installing all new items. For others, it means a fresh coat of paint and perhaps a new faucet for the sink. Whether your budget is thousands of dollars or hundreds, any update you do to your bathroom will see a return of your investment up to 90 percent. More importantly, you will have a bathroom that you and your whole family can enjoy.

Lighting

Replacing your lighting can have a great impact on the look of your bathroom. Install decorative sconces on either side of a vanity mirror, or even a pendant light hung above the sink. A heat lamp is a great addition to any bathroom, and a dimmer switch can add ambiance in a master bath. If you are going for a major remodel and have the space, try adding a chandelier above the bathtub for a luxurious look.

Walls

Paint is the least expensive and quickest way to update your bathroom. Try painting only the upper half of the walls, and installing tile or wainscoting on the lower half. Alternately, choose an interesting or modern wallpaper for one of the walls and paint the other three. Think about what is on your walls as well. Floating shelves add a sleek, modern touch to any bathroom and can be used to store supplies. Install a recessed medicine cabinet in your wall if you have a bit of carpentry skills. A new mirror can instantly update a vanity, and a towel warmer on the wall is perfect for those cold winter mornings.

Fixtures and Hardware

Replacing your sink and bath faucets can do wonders for the look of your bathroom. Brushed nickel is still popular, as well as rubbed bronze. Splurge on a new shower head and add a little luxury to your morning routine. You can even replace the flusher on your toilet to match your other new hardware.

Major Items

Consider replacing your tub with a whirlpool one. Today's whirlpool tubs come smaller than you would think. In fact, many are the same size as standard tubs and can fit right into your space without the need to knock down walls. Vanities can be purchased at big box stores such as Costco and can slide right into the space left by your old vanity. Note that the price of vanities does not usually include the top, so you will have to purchase a countertop and sink as well. To upgrade your shower, try a frameless door. This seems to float and make a bathroom look much larger. Other major remodeling ideas could include heated floors, or if you are going to expand the space, a walk-in closet.
