Build An Entertainment Center

Most homes nowadays have an abundance of electronic equipment providing multiple hours of entertainment for the family. But along with that equipment comes cords, wires and stacks of what looks like black boxes. Let's organize and hide all the unattractive stuff. Read on to learn build an entertainment center.

Instructions

1. Measure how much space you have in which to build an entertainment center. Most entertainment centers are between 6 and 7 feet tall. Entertainment centers can be built several different ways: with bookcases on each end and doors in between to hold your TV and audio equipment, or they can be built with doors on each end with glass to show your collectibles or any other design that would suit your need. For this example, we'll use pre-built cabinets, bookcases, crown molding and a piece of 3/4-inch plywood for your counter-top area that you can buy at your local home improvement store. Pick out hardware for your handles. You'll need to compare your room measurement with the cabinet and bookcase measurements you choose in order to make sure that it will fit in the way you decide to arrange it.

2. Lay out the entertainment center you want to build. Lay out base cabinets first. They can be 30 to 34 inches high. Put your plywood top on them. The center section of your base cabinets will be for your VCR, DVD, stereo and other equipment. These usually set on shelves that roll out for easy access. The upper portion of your center cabinet will be for your TV. It will have two butt doors. The lower section will have butt doors also. It's a good idea to order a turn-table for the top section of your entertainment center so that you can turn your TV to the position you want.

3. Use bookcases for each side when you build an entertainment center. This gives you extra storage not only for books, but for whatever else you need to organize or display.

4. Finish building your entertainment center by putting your crown mold for decorative trim at the top. Attach your hardware handles and you're done.
