Western Birthday Themes

Host a Western-themed birthday party.

Create a memorable Western-themed birthday part for a fun-filled event. Whether the theme is cowboy, cowgirl, wild west or old west, the theory is the same. Make everything from the birthday cake to the dress code Western-themed. This theme works for birthday parties for any age group, from small children to adults. Adjust the games, activities, favors and food according to the age of the party guests.

Entertainment

Plan a panning for gold game if hosting a Western-themed birthday party for children. Party guests search for gold nuggets and are awarded with prizes for trading in their gold. Entertain older party guests, from teens to adults, with line dancing or country music karaoke. Rent a karaoke machine or purchase a few country music CDs for the line dancing. Try Western-themed Pictionary or charades for other options. Use only Western-related words for clues, such as belt buckle, tumbleweed and saloon.

Decorations

Add Western decorations to your birthday party by hanging wanted posters, cutouts of cowboy hats, cacti, horseshoes and cowboy boots around the party area. Find sample cutouts from Resource 2. Opt for classic red and white checkered tablecloths made of paper or plastic for easy clean-up. Choose red and white balloons and streamers for additional festive touches. Make a banner saying Welcome to the (Your Last Name) Ranch to greet guests as they enter the party.

Food

Serve classic Western fare, such as baked beans and ribs, at your Western-themed birthday party. Add side dishes like potato salad and chips for a casual, tasty menu that guests of all ages can enjoy. Consider making a cowboy hat or cowboy boot-shaped birthday cake or purchasing a cake with Western decorations on top. Get creative by making other Western-themed treats, such as the dynamite candy sticks in Resource 3 below.

Favors

Provide Western-themed favors for guests to take home after the party. Select items that are age-appropriate, such as plastic sheriff's badges for young children or shot glasses for adults. Use bandanas for any age guests. Try old-fashioned candies, such as lemon drops or root beer barrels, for an old-fashioned treat. Even handing out bottles of IBC root beer, which has a classic, Old-West look, is an option for a Western-themed party favor.
